The mission of the Minister of Mariatime Affairs is to coordinate across all areas matters pertaining to the sea, through the definition and follow-up of the National Sea Strategy, fostering scientific knowledge, innovation and technological development in the field of the sea, defining and coordinating the policies on protection, planning, order, management and exploration of sea resources, promoting an effective presence at sea, its uses and a sustainable sea economy, for fisheries, pleasure activities at sea, fishing harbours and managing national and European funds for the sea.
